Our Love Story:
Our story is one that was not planned or strategized. We did not meet through social media, dating apps, or setups. We are blessed and thankful that Jesus brought us together according to His perfect plan. Before we began dating, we’d known each other for several years and shared many mutual friends, but we had never actually spoken to one another! Mackenzie made the first move by approaching Glenn on the rail at the World Championship Horse Show in Freedom Hall in August 2016.
I informed Glenn that we should be friends since we both live in the same apartment complex. A couple weeks after the show, I received a text from him letting me know he asked for my number from one of our mutual friends (Michael, one of Glenn’s Best Men) and was wondering if I would like to get together sometime. I said I would like to, but neither of us jumped on it too quickly. We ended up getting together with another mutual friend in early October, but it was not until election night in November that we really started talking. My internet and cable were down that day, so I had no way to watch what was happening except by using my phone. I texted Glenn in hopes that he would invite me over…since we did live in the same complex! He didn’t take the hint, but the ice had been broken.
The next day we went out together to Malone’s. We went out a few more times over the next several weeks and finally made plans to spend New Year’s Eve together with a few friends. We kissed as the clock struck midnight…and the rest is history!
Proposal:
On February 13, 2018, Glenn took me back to where we’d first talked in Freedom Hall, got down on one knee, and asked me to marry him. It took me completely by surprise! It was perfect, romantic, and made me the happiest girl in the world.
We knew the Fall would be the best time of year for our wedding given how our lives revolve around horse show schedules, so we got right to planning! We are incredibly thankful for the blessings the Lord has given us. We are so excited to begin this new chapter of our lives!
Choosing a venue:
While we are both transplants to Kentucky, (Mackenzie from Southern California and Glenn from Central Illinois, originally) we have fallen in love with Kentucky, from its charm, to its history, and “big-little” city feel. We knew we wanted the wedding in Lexington as central Kentucky has been our home for quite some time. We first saw The Carrick House and after looking at a number of other reception venues, we knew where we wanted to be! The Carrick House’s historic Lexington character mixed with a contemporary reception area was just perfect!
We wanted to be married in a church. We stumbled upon a gorgeous historic church right across from Thoroughbred Park, Second Presbyterian Church of Lexington. It was the perfect place as it had the feel of churches we grew up in! We wanted a ceremony to be in a place that honored the Lord. The moment the organ starting the wedding march to the illumination of the sparklers as we left the Carrick House, we knew we had made the right choices!
Important Elements:
Simply put, we wanted to center the entire wedding around the glorification of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Everything from the way we treated our planners, vendors, family and friends was to bring glory to God and honor all of those we hold so dear in our hearts! We have been blessed with amazing families and friends. The goal was to be able to interact with all of them as much as possible and give thanks to them for the impact they have had on our lives!
Advice for other couples:
Hiring our professional planner was without question the best person to have on our team. If it is in your budget to have even a month out, or day of planner, I would highly recommend it. Try and get your vendors locked in as early as possible. Enjoy being engaged. Don’t take the process too seriously. Take it all in the whole wedding weekend, it will go by too quickly!
