Favorite part of the planning process: every step of aging our own bourbon in our personal barrel and bottling it with Bluegrass Distillers for our favors!
Honeymoon Destination: Riviera Maya
Choosing a venue: We fell in love with Fasig-Tipton as soon as we pulled on the property. I knew it was “our venue” after talking to their event coordinator about all of the details of having a wedding there.
Important elements: I wanted our wedding day to be “us.” We both have a heart for Kentucky so we wanted to throw in some Kentucky elements throughout the wedding. Our wedding processional started with “My Old Kentucky Home” and we walked into the reception to the hype song that plays at the beginning of UK basketball games. We chose to feed each other s’mores instead of a traditional wedding cake and more. Everything was carefully thought out with our relationship and Kentucky in mind.
Advice for other couples: Don’t worry about “tradition” or what other people think! We didn’t do a first look, bouquet toss or garter toss. We DIY’d a lot. Our day was perfect because it was what we wanted. Lastly, hire a perfect team of vendors who will work hard for you and allow you to be you!
