Q: How did Justin propose?

A: I started working at Keeneland right before they hosted the Breeders’ Cup in 2015. His idea was to propose to me on a Saturday night, October 24, which happened to be the day after our first text the year before. He said it was “the day in which he couldn’t stop thinking about me.” Because this was right after the Keeneland Fall Race Meet and the start of the Breeders’ Cup week, I was exhausted. I fell asleep on his couch before he got a chance to pop the question. He tried to talk to me about how much he loved and cared for me, but I was fast asleep!

The next day, I went to his house after work, and brought napkins to wrap with twine for the Breeders’ Cup events happening that week. As I sat on his couch, I told him that I couldn’t stay late because I had a long week ahead of me and needed a good night of sleep. He then proceeded to tell me that he tried to propose the night before. I immediately dropped what I was doing. I had a mortified look on my face because I had ruined his proposal. He then got down on one knee, grabbed the ring from under the couch and asked me to marry him before I could fall asleep on him again. I did not get the good night sleep that I planned, but I definitely had a good reason!
