Tell us your love story!
Sean and I met on a dating website in in March 2015. I was extremely skeptical about online dating and Sean almost shut down his profile believing that he wouldn’t find the “right one”. We both were so wrong! After a while of email conversations, I felt comfortable enough to move forward with personal phone calls and texting. We met for smoothies at Common Grounds in downtown Lexington. Sean’s genuine nerdy, superhero and comic book loving self was revealed when he showed me a video of quantum physics. We talked and laughed until the coffee shop closed at midnight! We officially became a couple a month later and the rest has been all love and light!
How did he propose?
During our last visit to Negril, Jamaica, The Silverbirds performed an excellent rendition of Ed Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud” and we didn’t want to miss their performance on our second trip. During an afternoon beach stroll Sean bought me two sarongs and I went back up to the room to put them away. While I was gone he spoke with the resort entertainment coordinator and a few band members to request that they play the Ed Sheeran song. The band began playing “Thinking Out Loud” at show time and into the second verse Sean lead me to the dance floor. He gave me a spin and as I turned back around he dropped to one knee, with a ring in his hand. At this point reality is setting in and tears are flowing and I waited for him to say, “Will You Marry Me?” I shook my head “yes” because I don’t think my lips could move. By the grace of God, two lovely strangers caught our special moment on camera and video. It was all perfect and his timing was everything!
How did you choose your venue?
The Signature Club was the only venue I wanted after getting engaged because of the cost, scenery, bridal suite, and other amenities. At that time, our initial wedding date was already booked. Once our wedding date changed, I went back to The Signature Club only to learn that a promise hold had been placed on that day for another couple. Luckily, I was able to get 10/14/17 locked in after all!
How long were you engaged?
15 Months
What elements were most important for your wedding day to you?
The most important element was to have fun and savor every moment of the day. We also wanted our guests to enjoy themselves, dance, and eat delicious food and cake!
What advice would you give other brides?
Surround yourself with supportive family and friends who understand the day is about you two. Stay as close to your budget and guest count as possible and eliminate the small details that probably no one will remember anyway and your bank account will thank you later. Book an awesome photographer, so your wedding day can live on in pictures! Finally, book a month of or at the least, a day of coordinator. This individual will be a life saver on your wedding day and will ensure that everything you’ve planned goes off without a hitch and will reduce your stress levels tremendously.
