Ian and I met at a company that I worked for when I first moved from KY to Nashville. We both had very outgoing personalities, and we caught ourselves almost finishing each other’s sentences, as cliché as that might sound. I can honestly say it was love at first sight, and then we began spending every moment possible, together. Ian is from South Africa, so there was so much to learn about one another’s lives, and it quickly turned into knowing that we could have a forever future together. We now have been together for over 3 years and have a toddler, Mila Quinn, who is the center of our world!

How did he propose?
Normally in the mornings, I would get up and head to work around 5:30 am, to beat the lovely Nashville traffic, but that day I heard his alarm go off at 4:45, but simply ignored it, even though it was my birthday. After sneaking up the stairs, he woke me up, leaned down beside the bed, handed me the cutest display of dried flowers painted gold, a coffee cup that said Mrs., and a candy dish with my ring hidden in it. He then asked me to spend forever with him. I will never forget the feeling I had that day!

How did you choose your venue?
Sunset Ridge Farm just happens to be where I grew up. Even as a little girl, I dreamed about having a beautiful wedding on the farm, that has so many settings for great pics. I wanted a place where mine, and Ian’s family could come together for several days and enjoy time with family. Having the rehearsal dinner at the same location, was so convenient, because everyone was already there. Ironically enough my parents were converting the farm into what is now Sunset Ridge Farm Events Venue, so with all the lodging that sleeps 18, and getting a free Venue, the dream was perfect! Being blessed with growing up there, I had so many memories of life’s milestones, and I couldn’t imagine getting married anywhere else!

What elements were most important for your wedding day to you?
Seeing all of my ideas transpire on the farm, just as I had imagined them as a young girl, was truly important. The ceremony being waterside, and the reflections from the natural pond showing off the arbor with the floral arrangements, allowed us to have extra special pictures and videos. Cocktails and appetizers around the pool, and games on the front lawn, with the 100 yr old barn in the background, just added a special vibe to the evening. The vintage furniture and décor pieces set the mood for the elegant but yet rustic look, I had always envisioned.

What advice would you give other couples?
PREPARATION! Be prepared. Do everything you dreamed of, don’t let anyone tell you that you’re crazy for having certain ideas, and stay organized ahead of time. This will allow you to enjoy the wedding and all the festivities without being concerned about anything. Waiting until the last minute will cause major stress, and bring on worries and issues you don’t want. Also, don’t be a control freak. Let other people help you as much as possible!!
